Using zip lock bags in your microwave is a awesome way to make a quick healthy clean meal! Just pop in the veggies, some fish and spices and off you go. Like a microwave-dinner, super quick, just nice and clean!

The wise breakfast smoothie

Do you find it like me, hard to start of your monday - friday week with getting up and making a great nutritious breakfast? Time is usually of the essence and this meal is indeed the most important - it sets of the motion for the rest of the day. Bad breakfast -> Usually tired after a few hours leading to a bad lunch. Spend your time in the mornings drinking this and moving instead, take the extra 20 minutes you save to get off the bus a few stops early or bike your commute. I guarantee you that this is one of the most important things you can do to motivate you in a healthy lifestyle and feel better.

Starting the day off with a good protein and fiber rich smoothie is a great habit to incorporate weather you are just looking to live healthy or loose weight.

In the morning we break the fast we are in during the night and it’s important to do this gently. Having a large meal with fast carbs will spike your blood sugar making you hungry in 2-3 hours again, also having a large meal with make you feel sluggish and a bit tired, making it hard to find the motivation for a walk. A smoothie is a good way to have a quick and light meal, it’s important however to make this a Wise smoothie, that is you need to incorporate some protein and fibers to make you satisfied and raise your blood sugar levels slowly.

Basic recipe for wise smoothie

1 tsp of psyllium husk (Adds fiber, fibers are important for you to fill satisfied and for your digestive track)

0.5-1 scoop of protein powder (If we up the protein content you will feel full for longer and the slow release of energy will not spike your blood glucose levels)

Your choose of fruits and berries

2 tbsp of full fat Turkish yogurt (Full fat, are you nuts? No, you need your fats to satisfy your apatite and for a lot majorly important functions in your body, don’t fear the fat, just keep your calories in check)

0.5 cups of milk of your choise

Place all in the blender and mix, drink and go out the door for a walk or a bike ride!

Mornings become days, days become weeks, becomes life. Start them of right!

How to loose weight, part 1 - become passionate about food

So, wow, time really does fly. I can’t believe that my life, the way I eat and feel could change so much in such a short period of time. I eat a low calorie clean diet, I have come to realize that I don’t have to eat foods that I don’t like, I find myself celebrating cooking fresh, having veggies, finding amazing organic produce and it all tastes so unbelievably good! I don’t feel like my diet is depriving me of anything - the other way around I now ENJOY all the food that I eat and that’s amazing. Every snack I have, all the treats, I have made in my own kitchen, stuffing my freezer full off healthy muffins, cookies and things I love. Preparing salads, and chillies and stirfrys and fresh fruit. Yes, I do spend more time in my kitchen, but I spend LESS time wandering around the store trying to figure out what to eat and preparing semi-processed crappy food. When you become aware of what you eat, it’s inevitably so that you change. I had one semi processed meal a while back, and really, it tasted like crap! I was so surprised, the taste was old and salty and.. I missed my fresh red bellpeeppers and dessert cherries. :)

To all of you out there, trying to find your way in the world of health and weight loss and good living, I can highly recommend you to try out a change, get curious about your food, what does it contain? Where was it produced? Get into you kitchen and start cooking things that you love and really enjoy! If you don’t like it, nothing lost and you can go back to your old ways.

Oh, maybe you wonder, all that is fine. But did it render any weightloss results? Yes, it did, since I have kept a low calorie diet I have lost about 20 lbs. There are tons of ways that you can loose weight, not all of them work for all of us, but learning and taking an intresst in food is not just about lifestyle and weightless, it’s about awareness and treating yourself with care. Body and mind.

I have come to realize…

That the only treat-food I can keep at home is dark chocolate, at least 70 %. I can truly not handle cookies or baked things because I will eat them all. It will be the first thing I’ll think of when I wake up, I’ll watch tv and know exactly where they are, in the cupboard waiting to be eaten. And I, will eat them all when i start.

The force is strong with them, the cookies.

When life gets crazy…

It’s really hard to eat right. Really. My days have been hospital->Sleep->Wakeup->Inhale smoothie->Hospital->Home, study, tea ->Sleap and repeat. I actually don’t have time to workout right now and it sucks, but face it. It takes a couple of hours each day to cook and workout so, right now, I do the best of the situation. Some great things to do when life get’s crazy:

- Bike wherever you are going, I usually do this but right now it’s the only workout I get. Better then nothing!

- Eat quick and healthy, pre made smoothies, fruits and anything healthy that comes in a bag, protein bars (I generally don’t like them but hey, they fit in my scrubs, and I can eat them whenever. Better then vending machine crap when desperate.) Make sure you try to eat regularly. I usually keep an emergency stash of dark chocolate as well, and it comes in very handy now and then.

- Keep frozen leftovers that you can just grab and go.

- Get enough sleep. Mucho important! Grossly underestimated in these times of finding balance and doing it all, you need to make time for your sleep.

Basiclly, if you don’t have time to plan, to cook, workout and you CAN’T BLAME YOURSELF FOR THAT! Seriously, you do the best you can. Find quick solutions that works for you during times like these. The important thing is that you just don’t drop everything, start to eat crappy and fall into a circle of bad choises because you feel that you can’t do everything according to plan. The plan is to live, and life varies at times. Go with the flow and feel good! There will be times for hardcore cooking weeks, workout weeks and all of that. But be honest and realize that sometimes, you have to priorotize.

Sometimes we all have a rough time.

And we need kicks for motivation, support, inspiration. Sometimes it helps to give yourself a kick in the butt and go workout. Sometimes you need to relax for a night reading a book, watching TV. Doing anything else. Sometimes, you need to go on tumblr and reblog pretty things. ;)

I have hugh passion for healthy food (Blog kind of gives that away) and living healthy, working out, but sometimes, I really have no inspiration, no inspiration for cooking, baking, no energy to give it my all in the gym. What do you guys do to fuse your inspiration?

DID I HAVE A TREAT?!

After 7 weeks on my clean low-cal diet, I’m back home, going out with my best friend and we and up at TGIF, a huge salad, chicken, two glass of white wine and a mini snickers desert, and I’m so full! But happy, it was a great evening and I’m happy with my choices! Naturally, I’m not at my daily calorie goal, but it’s a treat. That’s what treats are. And we need them. And, I feel happy because I did not crave anything else! I did not want the fried stuff (Yuck!) I wanted an nice salad with grilled chicken and it was delicious and awesome. And yes, I treated myself to desert because I have the biggest sweet tooth of all time and I love wine, so that is what I’m going to treat myself with! The things I really love to have once in a while. And do you know what? Doing that is good for you. It keeps you sane and happy!

3 amazing ways to get back on track

#1 Remember that days come in many sizes, forms and shapes.

There’re going to be days when your diet is on point. There’re going to be days when you had a party to attend and all they had were 600-calories-a-martini glasses. There’re going to be weeks when you hit the gym like you lived there. There’re going to be days when the only time you have for yourself is shower time. Once you’ve realized that, let it go. Let go of your need of perfection. Let go of obsessing over perfecting your every action. What you do most of the time, is more important that what you do sometimes. Give yourself a break :)

#2 When you’re feeling unmotivated.

Always refer to your big poster of BIG THREE’S. Why you’re doing this. If you want to lose weight. It could be 1) I want to be able to live a long healthy life with my husband and kids 2) I want to be able to inspire my family to adopt a healthy lifestyle 3) I want to have the stamina to run around with my kids …. Remember WHY you’re doing this. Make sure these reasons are for YOU.. and for YOU. If it’s because you want to look amazing in a bikini, write that down. Remember what you’re fighting for, then put in the hard work.

#3 When you’re facing failure.

Failures are EVENTS. Failures aren’t an indication of who you ARE as a person. They’re delayed successes. They’re GREAT teachers, re-assessors, learning points. Let them be your help checkpoints in learning how to re-strategize your actions to better achieve your goals. When you’ve failed, it’s not YOU that has failed, it’s your ACTIONS that needs to be redefined. Failures are delayed successes, remember that.

As always, good advice!

The combination school stress and lack of sleep

Is a really, REALLY bad combination! I just want to eat and eat. Anything, even though I’m not hungry. GAH. It’s really hard to handle stress and food for me actually. And I can’t work out as much, seriously, it takes to much time. You might hear that as a lame excuse, but I really need my sleep and my studying time so. Right now, it’s not working. And during those times I guess all you can do is to stay active (bike and so on) and eat really well. The last one proving more difficult when the stress is higher and the lack of sleep increase…

Haha, that’s so very true. Everyone seems to assume that because I’m overweight I 1. Hate my body. 2. Have a really bad self esteem, and really, I deserve to be pitied a little. I’m neither. I just want to be healthy and take care of my body - make it strong.

Oh man, I’m so stuffed…

How did I end up here? I ate loads today, it’s the first time since going on my clean diet that it really just broke down. I have been sort of wondering why people break down, because I was feeling so good on my diet! So what happened? A combination of these I think.

1. To little sleep, seriously. This is _dangerous_. I get so hungry when I don’t sleep enough, it’s not even funny.

2. I ate to little and not good enough during the day. Really, to few calories, to little good protein.

I have gradually been feeling weaker and weaker the last week and I was just not sure what was wrong. Maybe this was it, my body really needed some good food and calories! It really feels like that! And my indulgences have been really healthy clean stuff, apples, mangoes, almond butter, dark organic chocolate and mmm, so good! Honestly, I don’t call this a binge, because I HATE that word. It implies that this would be something pathological, a BIG mistake. It’s not. It happens because somehow, you have not treated your body and mind right. You lost your willpower because you got to tired, then you pushed to hard. And, I know that tomorrow will be the hard day, tomorrow is the new challenge because it will be HARDER to go back to the old habits after this, it will take more willpower but honestly, it feels like my motivation is coming back. I have been so tired and.. annoyed with the diet the past few weeks, really feeling it weakening. Maybe these moments are necessary, just like a fight now and then will clean the air in a relationship and give some color to life back again. That’s how I see it. It’s never a failure or a mistake. It happens because of something, something you created and you need to again, find your motivation and keep at it.
